THE search for this year’s Miss Wales is hotting up, with the competition more likely to unearth a Welsh Wonder Woman.
About 150 contestants will today line upand beasked tothrowoff their high heels and walk barefoot over burning coals.
Not only that, they will have to karate chop their way through wooden boards and bend iron bars around their necks.
The hard-edged challenges, headed upbyaqualified life coach, take place at Bryn Meadows Hotel, Golf and Spa Club, Maesycwmmer, near Caerphilly, as part of the competition’s semifinal.
Event organiser Paula Abbandonato, of Vibe Models, said: “So many young women are interested in the Miss Wales competition that we believe we have an opportunity and a responsibility to do something special.
“These may not be the sorts of exercises traditionally associated with the beauty pageant, but the motivational masterclass will provide them with the chance to look at themselves, their dreams, their ambitions and to aim for new heights in their lives.
“The fire walk itself is a metaphor for self-belief. If you think you can, you will.
“Ultimately, only one girl will win the Miss Wales prize but if the competition can make a positive impact on the lives of 150 others, that makes it really special.”
The eventwill be runbyLondon life coachTozin Ogunnusi and by the end of the day, interviews and photographswill determine whichof the 70 contestantswill compete at the grand final at the Cardiff International Arena in July. Mrs Abbandonato said: “This year the aim is to raise about pounds 60,000 for the Joshua Foundation.
“It’s a charity which provides life experiences to children with terminal cancer and their families which is headed by former Welsh Woman of the Year Sarah Cornelius.”
Thewinner ofMiss Wales 2008,who will take over from current title-holder Kelly Pesticcio, will receive a prize package worth pounds 20,000, including a trip to take part inMissWorld 2008 in the Ukraine this autumn.

Bears sleep most of the winter and eat nothing. They live on their fat. I?ve been cutting down to one or two meals a day. You would think that would do it. That?s called the
Starvation Plan.
Well, the
Starvation Plan
doesn?t work.
It works until 10:00 P.M.
After that it doesn?t work at all.
That?s when what is called a
feeding frenzy
cuts in. The refrigerator door turns into a super magnet with a magnetic field that reaches out of the kitchen and into the living room where I?m watching television and reading a book or doing a logic puzzle.
The door says, ?COME! COME! COME!?
That?s when everything goes to hell.

Over a four-year period, from 1996 to 2000, the proportion of employees taking sick time due to stress rose by three fold. Each day, as many as a million American workers have called in sick because they are under too much stress. This absenteeism is costing American companies money and productivity.
Americans are also feeling stressed out because they no longer think they?re jobs are secure. Over a ten year period, the number of employees who were afraid they would become unemployed doubled. And a survey conducted in the year 2000 discovered that half of all workers worried that they could lose their jobs.
The dot.com burst, corporate bankruptcies, and massive layoffs have scared the American workforce.With little job security, workers live in fear of being tossed onto the unemployment line.A number of people have come to realize that they cannot expect to retire from the company for which they are now working.
It would be wonderful if the economy could be changed so that long-term employment at a single company was still possible, but that may be wishful thinking.

There are over half a dozen varieties of gallstones, most of which have cholesterol crystals in them. They can be black, red, white, green or tan colored. At the very center of each stone is found a clump of bacteria, according to scientists, suggesting that a dead bit of parasite might have started the stone forming.
As the stones grow and become more numerous the back pressure on the liver causes it to make less bile. It is also thought to slow the flow of lymphatic fluid. Imagine the situation if your garden hose had marbles in it.

Answer: According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, traditional split-level houses are out of style. In 2005, fewer than 1 percent of the more than 2 million houses constructed in the United States were split-levels, according to new housing data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
But don?t expect them to disappear anytime soon. They were built by the thousands between 1955 and 1975. The split-level’s relatively efficient floor plan developed as `50s American families, who were filling little ranches with babies as fast as they could, started to feel crowded. “The secret of it was, it gave them a family room in a minimum amount of footage,” says housing-industry consultant Tracy Cross.
